Public disclosure information
In 1972 the State of Washington adopted Initiative 276, which requires that most records maintained by state, county, and city governments be made available to the public. Our office is responsible for meeting the statutory requirements with Chapter 42.56 RCW - Washington State Public Records Act.
How do I make a request?
- Please use our online public disclosure request form or
- You can send in your own written request. Make sure to include:
- Your contact information. Email addresses are helpful.
- Detailed information of what you are looking for.

What happens after you receive my request?
Within 5 business days of receiving your request:

Are there any costs involved?
There is no cost for electronic copies. However, not all documents are stored this way. Costs are:
- Hard copies: $3.50 for first 10 pages and $0.17 per page thereafter.
- Compact disk: $6.00
- Shipping: Depends on your location.
We accept cash or check made payable to: Insurance Commissioners Office.
How do I appeal a denial?
If we deny your public records request, you may request a review:
- Make your request in writing,
- Refer to the written exemption or reason for denial, and
- Address your request to public records.
Within 2 business days of receiving your request, the Insurance Commissioner will either affirm or reverse the denial.
